“Many people don’t realise that deleting e-mails can reduce carbon emissions,” says Kredinor’s Sustainability Manager Edda Flatlandsmo. “We use the five-a-day concept because most people associate it with something positive, which makes it easier to mobilise support for a joint endeavour to combat climate change,” she says.

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something,” says Kredinor’s Sustainability Manager Edda Flatlandsmo
How to delete e-mails
An e-mail’s size has an impact on its environmental footprint – the larger the files deleted, the greater the impact of deleting them. Open your e-mail account and start with your inbox.
- Sort your e-mail folder by item size
- Delete the items you don’t need to keep
- Empty the “deleted items” or “trash” folder
“I hope everyone is just as keen as I am to do something as simple as deleting five e-mails a day. Each of us can make a small difference, which – together – will have a huge impact,” says Edda Flatlandsmo, who leads Kredinor’s sustainability activities.
